About Joanne Black

Organizations

I am consistently asked about the best organizations to attend in the San Francisco Bay Area. For those of you outside of Northern California, most of these organizations have national representation.

The most important thing to remember is to SHOW UP. Set a goal to attend at least one organization meeting a week. You will learn something, meet interesting people, and you may even find a new client. Try out different groups and see what you like. Learn what groups your clients attend and show up there. If you want to find out what's going on, check local on-line listings. In Northern California go to:

www.workit.com

www.craigslist.com

eWomenNetwork

I learned about eWomanNetwork in December of 2001. After attending one of the Accelerated Networking lunches, I was sold on the results and the dedication of the members. eWomenNetwork is the number one resource for connecting and promoting women and their businesses worldwide to thrive in the new economy. It is the fastest growing membership-based professional women's networking organization in North America.

Check out www.ewomennetwork.com for detailed information about the organization as well as events in your city.

Marin Association of Female Executives (MAFE)

I have belonged to MAFE for several years and have enjoyed the camaraderie and support of the members. This is an organization of women entrepreneurs and executives committed to the personal and professional development through networking, mentoring, and education. The national association is www.nafe.com

NAWBO-National Association of Women Business Owners

I belong to the San Francisco Chapter and have been impressed with the caliber of women and their public policy. The National Association of Women Business Owners propels women entrepreneurs into economic, social, and political spheres of power worldwide. NAWBO represents the interests of all women entrepreneurs in all industries. NAWBO's strength comes from the diversity of its membership - all sizes from sole proprietorship to hundreds of employees in every industry.

Professional Women's Network

Here is another wonderful women's group. We meet for lunch the first Friday of each month in San Francisco. The women are engaging and professional and take delight in each other's success. The goal of the organization is to provide an environment where members can exchange ideas and expertise, make business connections, and foster leadership development.

San Francisco Chamber of Commerce

Here's my favorite--I have been a member of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce for eight years. Like any activity, the more you contribute, the more you gain. I was on the Leadership Team of Business Alliance (the leads group), Sales Success Series, and Small Business Advisory Council. I have been a speaker at the Women in Business Roundtable and the Sales Success Series.

The mission of the San Francisco Chamber is to attract, develop and retain business in San Francisco. It is recognized as the pre-eminent business organization for advocacy, networking and economic growth. Check out your local Chamber of Commerce and support its activities.
